Psalm 42

This morning as I was checking facebook, I noticed a status. It read "Psalm 42" I love when people put references as their status's. It just makes me even more curious and I can't stop thinking about the verse or verses until I have looked them up.

So, of course, my curiosity got the better of me, and I went to biblegateway.com to see what Psalm 42 says.

And how great is God! When you need encouragement, it is always found. Here is a section of this psalm that really stood out to me:

"As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
My tears have been my food
       day and night,
while men say to me all day long,
       "Where is your God?"
 These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go with the multitude,
leading the procession to the house of God,
with shouts of joy and thanksgiving
       among the festive throng.
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
                                                          Why so disturbed within me?
                                                             Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
                                                            my Savior and my God"

How beautiful are these words! The first two verses express the desire to be with God. This desire is one that is so real for me. I can't wait for the day to be face to face with my Father! I love how it says "my soul pants for you o God."

But the part that gets to me even more is just a little farther down: "while men say to me all day long, Where is your God? These things I remember..."

Where is my God you may ask? Let me tell you the things I remember:

1. when I was told that I would not be able to see again and that I was going blind, I was given renewed sight...that's where my God is!

2. When a family friend was in a ca accident and was not expected to walk and can now walk on his own...that's where my God is!

3. When I saw the faces of my newly born niece and nephew....that's where my God is!

4. When I see rainbows in the sky after a nice rain....that's where my God is!

5. When you look into the eyes of a child and see love, hope and a future...that's where my God is!

When someone asks me where my God is, I have an answer. I have seen my God. I have seen the work of God in my life and the lives of those around me.

So I ask you, where is your God? Because if you just open your eyes and look around you will see my God!

  1. hannah- i really really love this post. that's just so heartfelt and makes you think. i love the verse itself, but that you put where you see God... it made me think about where I see God. And that's just a thought we need to keep all the time. So thanks :)

  3. Wow, yes I love that psalm! thank you for reminding me of it. I love how David is basically saying, even though I'm in the middle of suffering, I still remember the joy that comes from the Lord, even if I dont feel it right now. That's a hard thing to say. I've felt that way recently... 'my tears have been my food day and night' and yet: I remember the times of joy too, and know that no matter how I feel, more times of joy are right around the corner. Love you girl
