Be Still....

God has placed a lot on my heart today, and I'm not normally one to blog every hour, but today that just seems necessary as God keeps revealing to me more of who He is.

I have often times thought about the verse in Psalms that mentions being still...and today that verse keeps coming to my mind.

"Be still, and know that I am God" - Pslam 46:10

Be. Still

 and Know

that I AM God...

But what does it mean to be still?

According to dictionary.com it means:
1.remaining in place or at rest; motionless; stationary: to stand still.
2.free from sound or noise, as a place or persons; silent: to keep still about a matter.
3.subdued or low in sound; hushed: a still, small voice.
4. free from turbulence or commotion; peaceful; tranquil; calm

To be still and to know God is to put distraction aside and to just dwell. Dwell in who He is. Dwell in his goodness. Dwell in his mercy. Dwell in His love.

But being still and doing nothing are two different things.

This doesn't say to do nothing. It doesn't say to stop seeking, to stop praying, to stop growing.

Rather, it says just the opposite. We are to be still and continue seeking God in this moment of complete tranquility. We are to pray while listening to the quietness around us. We are to grow closer to God by letting him speak to us.

We are to be still. Know that I am God. Dwell in this.

  1. I remember from a speaker I heard awhile back: those are the same words that Jesus used to speak to the wind and the waves: be still. In other words, I need to speak to the storms in my own heart and say 'Be still: know that He is God.' THAT is the anchor that gets us through the storms.
